Who I am

  • Former COO of Tabs. I ran the Tabs creator program: 100M+ organic views a month across TikTok, Instagram and YouTube, not paid impressions. Most videos get a few hundred views and a few break out, so steady volume is the strategy.
  • Founded Mainstreet, a consumer home-services platform: a team of 70, $25M raised (Greylock, Khosla, YC, Tim Ferriss). It failed, and the lesson I’d bring here: prove demand in small tests before scaling spend
  • Before that: Quintessential Ventures, an early seat at a high-growth startup, and entrepreneur-in-residence at Prehype

tldr

Calm already tests hooks in paid at scale: about 600 active Meta ads today, with the “swap the scroll for 3 minutes of breathing” hook running 134 days and this month’s push on EMDR-inspired bilateral audio. I’d build the organic side: a small roster posting daily from their own accounts, feeding your ad team hooks that already broke out, with a claims and disclosure check on every post.

What I built

  • A Meta-optimized landing page built around your longest-running hook
  • 15 ads, shown the way they’d run in the feed, remade from your own live hooks
  • A growth plan: one number to protect, gates set before spend
  • A creator engine: videos we’d remake from your longest-running hooks, a four-stage posting order, ten small creators (under 5,000 followers, counts read from live TikTok results), pay bands, kill rules and a claims check built around your own ad wording (“EMDR-inspired”, “may help”)
Every ad at 1080×1080, 1080×1350 and 1080×1920, with the primary text, headline and CTA in a spreadsheet.

Why Calm

  • Your longest-running ad proves a simple, UGC-friendly moment: put the phone down, breathe for three minutes.
  • You’re pushing new bilateral audio through quizzes; creators can show honest first reactions faster than motion graphics can.
  • Mental-health language needs one claims sheet and a review loop. Systems are what I build.

What I’d do here

  • Five creators posting daily on your proven moments (scroll swap, 30-second sound, body check).
  • A weekly hook list adapted to Calm and checked against one claims sheet.
  • Monday report: posts, median and best views, cost per 1,000 organic views, keep / watch / replace. Winners handed to your ad team.
  • One claims sheet: no health-outcome claims, “EMDR-inspired” wording, “not medical advice,” #ad on every paid post.

Roster is the core variable. Video volume follows from it at 7 videos per creator per week. Kill-or-keep gates at day 45 and day 90 are set now. All numbers proposed. No price here; happy to walk through it on a call.

I’d love to chat if this makes sense. Grab a time here.

GROWTH PLAN · CALM · 29 SEPT 2026

Scale spend. Hold cost per trial start.

One number to protect, and a plan to add more winning hooks without it moving: an organic creator roster that feeds your ad team hooks already proven, a UGC ad set next to the brand-produced one, and one claims sheet for mental-health language. Stopped by gates we agree on before any money moves.

  • Target cost per trial start: yours to set in week one; everything below is gated on it
  • 5–8 new UGC ads tested a week once creators are live (proposed)
  • $10,000 creator roster a month at full size (proposed)
  • Day 45: keep-or-stop call, on the numbers
App imagery: Calm’s App Store listing. Every figure marked “proposed” is Danilo’s plan, not Calm data.
CONTENTS
01 · THE NUMBER

One number to protect. Seven ways it breaks. Three moves.

The number is cost per trial start (a subscriber start on Calm Premium), at the spend you want to reach. Calm already tests at scale in paid; the gap is where new hooks come from. Today they come from one studio style. The plan adds a second source that is cheaper per hook and already proven before a dollar goes behind it.

PROTECTCost per trial start, set together in week one
THREE MOVES1. Organic roster feeds paid: hooks proven organically go to the ad team first
2. Add UGC to a brand-produced ad set
3. One claims sheet for mental-health language

What’s on file: about 600 active US Meta ads under the Calm page. Of the 27 read, 0 are phone-shot creator content. The longest-running hook has been live 134 days; top hooks run 100+ days.

Meta Ad Library (Calm page 328627523855071, US, active), read 29 Sept 2026. Run length counted to that date.

02 · VARIETY

Only variety absorbs variety.

Calm’s paid push right now is EMDR-inspired bilateral audio through quiz funnels, plus the doomscroll-to-breathing hook. Both are strong, and both arrive in one look: typographic, illustrated or motion graphics. A creator saying “I tried this instead of scrolling” is a different reason to try, not just a different font.

High $59.49 × 1.5 × 50% = $44.62.The ceiling is a range, $19 to $45 per trial start, not one number. Replace the assumed lines with your numbers and it recalculates.

Weeks 1–2 are organic only: creators post, and nothing goes to paid until a video has worked on its own. From week 3, only videos that beat the account’s median get whitelisted into the UGC ad set.

68 × $400$3,200$8,900

Six weeks of UGC tests total $8,900 (proposed), on top of the spend you already run. All numbers are Danilo’s proposal.

06 · VOLUME

Whatever your cost per trial is, hook volume is what moves it.

At a fixed hit rate, more concepts tested means more winners, and more winners means more spend held at the same cost. The hit rate is an assumption until your first month of tests replaces it.

CONCEPTS TESTED / MONTHHIT RATE (ASSUMED)NEW WINNERS / MONTHSPEND EACH WINNER HOLDS (ASSUMED)ADDED SPEND AT TARGET

4010%4$250 / day$30,000 / month

A roster of ten posting 7 videos a week makes about 300 organic tests a month before any are paid (proposed). Only the ones that beat their median become ad concepts.

09 · PAYBACK

Cost per trial is the number we steer by. Payback sets what it can be.

A trial start only pays back if it converts, and a yearly plan only pays twice if it renews. A trial can look cheap to buy and still lose money if it never converts. Payback gets judged on trial cohorts, not on install counts.

Real posts from the Tabs roster. Most videos get a few hundred views; a few break out, and the average is carried by hit rate. That’s why volume is the strategy.

HOW IT WORKS

What makes a creator program perform.

Posting often, not waiting on one hitA roster posting daily beats one big creator deal a month.

Calm already runs the format in paid: its longest-running active ad (134 days) is the scroll-to-breathing swap, and its newest push is EMDR-inspired bilateral audio through quiz.calm.com. Two example hook clips, then two of the Tabs creator accounts running as themselves.

HOOK A · THE SCROLL SWAP“Put the phone down for 3 minutes.”Creator films themselves mid-scroll, then screen-records a short breathing session in Calm. Built on ad A.
HOOK B · THE 30-SECOND SOUND“Listen for 30 seconds.”Creator plays a bilateral audio clip and shows their own reaction. Built on ad B. Any effect is theirs, said as experience.

PROGRAMS RUNNING THIS MODEL
SUSH · 175M views, 200K+ downloads a month. Mostly students, $500 a month for 3 posts a week, $1,000 bonus for any video over 1M organic views.
Cheaterbuster · 268M views in 60 days from 20+ ambassadors telling first-person stories to camera.
CoupleJoy · 116M views from 16 creators, US and Latin America from day one, each posting to TikTok and Instagram.

For Calm the format stays; the content changes. The hook is a real moment of stress or a sleepless night, and every claim comes off the approved claims sheet.

SOURCE MATERIAL

Ten videos we’d remake.

Honest note: the 27 active Calm ads read are brand-produced (typographic, illustrated, motion graphics). None is phone-shot talking-head UGC, and none is a creator partnership. So the table takes Calm’s real longest-running hooks as the source and remakes them as UGC. Rows 8–12 are under 30 days: early signal. Viral organic slots stay open until verified.

ONE HOOK, FOUR WAYS

“Swap the scroll for 3 minutes of breathing.”

USER VIEW“POV: it’s 1 a.m., you’re scrolling, and you switch to this instead.”
CREATOR VIEW“Tell me why I only tried a breathing session after two hours of scrolling.”
GROUP VIEW“We all say we’ll stop scrolling before bed. Here’s what I do at 11 p.m. instead.”
DIRECT APPEAL“If you can’t switch off at night, try this for three minutes.”

All four stay inside Calm’s own ad and site claims. None promises a result.

COMPLIANCE

Calm sells into mental health, so claim language matters.

On file: current ads say “EMDR-Inspired Bilateral Audio,” “may help your nervous system downshift,” “Trusted by millions worldwide,” and “Rated 5-Stars by 2.5M+ Users.” A third-party claims site alleges tracking-tool data sharing (allegation only). Subscriptions auto-renew. No regulator action found on 29 Sept 2026.

WHO WE LIKE

Ten creators we’d recruit first.

Ten TikTok accounts read from live TikTok user-search results on 29 Sept 2026, all under 5,000 followers. Fit is judged from the account name and search category only; bios and recent posts were not reviewed. Every name goes through the five filters and a conflict check before we reach out.

Illustrative inputs, not Calm data. At the defaults (10 creators, ~$1,000 average pay, ~300 videos, 2,000-view median, 8% breakouts at ~60K, 2% viral at ~500K) the roster reaches about 5M views for about $2.00 per 1,000. Not at target: it needs about 10M views a month (about 12% breakouts and 4% viral) or a cheaper mix.

HOW TO START

We start with ten.

DAYS 1–2 PER ACCOUNTWarm upFollow about 30 category accounts and scroll normally for 24–48 hours before posting.
MONTH 1Recruit and trialShortlist, test briefs, claims training, lock the roster. Test rule: same video on 10 accounts; if 3 break out, the content works.
MONTH 2Produce and learnShip daily, score creators, whitelist winners into paid.
MONTH 3Scale or refineKeep winners, replace weak slots.
DAY 90Decision gate$1–2 per 1,000 views with breakouts, or it stops.

Monthly ceiling at full roster: about $10,000 in retainers, most $15,000 with bonuses (proposed).
